Bad Links? | New plaground dedicated in PalmettoBy BEN NELMS A public-private partnership between Fulton County Parks and Recreation and Safeco Insurance has provided a second playground at Palmettos Wilkerson Mill Park. County officials at the June 24 dedication said the project signifies a trend for the future in recreation and other public needs areas. Five months in the making, the playground equipment was secured by a $10,000 grant from Safeco. Safecos $10,000 grant to the countys Parks Foundation is a part of the companys commitment to strengthening neighborhoods and supporting programs that encourage community involvement, said Fulton County Parks and Recreation Deputy Director Robert McCullough. McCullough said Parks and Recreation supplied the timber, benches, safety materials and drainage system for the new playground, bringing the total project cost to an estimated $20,000. Good things are happening in South Fulton. And this is a wonderful idea for a public-private partnership between Safeco and the county to increase the level of quality of life in South Fulton, said District 7 Commissioner Bill Edwards. Our parks will feel the presence of our growth and we dont ever want to have to turn anyone away. My hats off to Safeco for doing this for this county and for the community. This public-private project is a good example of everybody pitching in, McCullough said. I think this will be a trend for the future. The 30-acre park is located on Wilkerson Mill Road. Other amenities include lighted baseball/softball fields, picnic shelters, a clubhouse, concession stand and restrooms and a second playground. |
