Bad Links? | Heavy traffic expected for Peachtree City fireworksDue to construction on Ga. Highway 54, motorists coming to Peachtree Citys fireworks show are strongly being urged to avoid the section of Hwy. 54 from Northlake Parkway all the way to the western city limits. Itll be nasty because of the road construction, said Capt. Stan Pye of the Peachtree City Police Department. If the event needs to be cancelled for inclement weather, a notice will be placed on the citys web site at www.peachtree-city.org and on the citys government-access cable channel, which is channel 26 for Comcast Cable subscribers in Fayette County. Also, if the fireworks are cancelled, a single red burst of fireworks will be launched to notify anyone within sight of the cancellation. As usual, the city will have handicap parking available at Picnic Park and Peachtree City Presbyterian Church, both of which are on Willowbend Road near City Hall. No other parking will be permitted at City Hall or picnic park during the concert and fireworks display. Parking is also prohibited in the median of Hwy. 54. The evenings events begin at 7 p.m. with a patriotic concert at City Hall Plaza. The fireworks display is due to begin at 9:30 p.m. There will also be food vendors again this year for those early birds staking out the best views for the fireworks display over Lake Peachtree, officials said.
