Bad Links? | Orchestra coming to townIn support of cultural experiences and to celebrate the sister-city relationship of Newnan, Georgia and Ayr, Scotland, the internationally renowned Ayrshire Fiddle Orchestra will visit Newnan during their U.S. tour. Approximately 85 fiddlers, along with 13 adults, will descend on Newnan on July 7 until July 12. The Ayrshire Fiddle Orchestra is a collection of dedicated young people who come together to keep alive the traditional music of Scotland. The orchestra is composed of about 130 violinists, cellists, bass players and percussionists from 10 to 18 years old All the students and chaperones will be staying with host families in our community. Performances have been scheduled for July 9 at 7 p.m. and at 2 p.m. July 10 at the Centre for Performing and Visual Arts in Newnan. A gala is also planned following the Saturday evening performance. Tickets to the performances will be $10 and tickets to the gala will be $15 and can be purchased at The Centre or at Scotts Bookstore in downtown Newnan. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Strings program of the Coweta County School System. During their trip to Newnan, the students will also visit Atlanta tourist sites and Callaway Gardens. As part of their summer U.S. tour, the Fiddle Orchestra will also visit Ohio; New York; Savannah, and Florida.
