Bad Links? | Brooks team wins district championshipNational Little League Week was celebrated in Brooks, Georgia June 9-14 with the Brooks Area Recreation Department hosting the District Four 7/8 All-Star Tournament. Teams from Books, Peachtree City, Senoia and Grantville participated, with the Brooks 7/8 year old All-Star team winning the district championship. The Brooks team finished the tournament undefeated and won the championship game 17-13 against the Peachtree City National team. Brooks was led in the championship game by the hitting of Brandon Bell, Ethan Gillis and Jay Ashley. On the pitchers mound, William Manning pitched five strong innings and Aaron Dingler pitched a perfect last inning to earn the save and clinching the third 7/8 All-Star championship for Brooks in the last five years. The members of the 7 and 8 year old Brooks team are Aaron Dingler, Jared Gresham, Tyler Perdue, Trey Hunley, Caleb Shadle, Brandon Bell, Ethan Gillis, Jay Ashley, Matt Bishop, Justin Peck, William Manning, Karson Brown, and Hunter Walraven. The team also introduced the first annual Unsung Hero Award honoring the memory of Ed Hosey. Hosey was a 35 year local area volunteer of Little League Baseball who died from cancer earlier this year. The award was presented to Hunter Walraven as the team member that during the tournament best symbolized what Hosey based his life on, selfless service, courage, respect and an unquestioned character. Brooks Park was decorated in Red, White and Blue to honor a long history of Little League and National pride and every player received an American Flag for their participation in the tournament. |
