Bad Links? | Biking events this monthFayette Biking for Life (FBL), a cycling club based in Fayette County, would like to make everyone aware of two events occurring in July. The first is the Fourth of July Parade in Peachtree City. FBL will be riding/ walking in the parade participating with other cycling groups, particularly those affiliated with, or sponsored by, Georgia Velo. The parade will start on Monday, July 4, at 9 a.m. and will last approximately 2-1/2 hours. There will be opportunities to ride and/or walk in the parade. All cyclists are urged to participate in this fun celebration of our countrys heritage and increase cycling awareness at the same time. Please attend in cycling attire and on bicycles, which should be decorated to reflect patriotism and national pride. Park near the Amphitheater or at Huddleston Elementary School on McIntosh Trail and ride to the start in the vicinity of position #147 on Peachtree Parkway. All cyclists must be in place no later than 8:45 a.m. but are encouraged to arrive at 8 a.m. Helmets are required, and you should bring your own water. Non-members are welcome and encouraged to participate. Another event that FBL is excited to announce is our annual club picnic. This year the event will be a little different in that it will be a progressive picnic with participants meeting on Saturday, July 23 at 9 a.m. at Harps Crossing Baptist Church. There will be varying length group rides that will reassemble for lunch at Lake Horton at approximately 11:30 a.m. After lunch, there will be a short ride to Brooks for dessert and fun activities. Final details will be sent to members via e-mail and will be posted on the club web site as soon as they are available. Helmets are required during all rides. Non-members are welcome and encouraged to participate. The mission of Fayette Biking for Life Club is to encourage a close knit cycling community in and around Fayette County, Georgia. To this end, the club will promote safe cycling habits among all types and levels of cyclists, will advocate the development of cycling-friendly roads and cycling recreation areas, and foremost will provide a meeting point for all riders interested in cycling for health and recreation.
