Bad Links? | Schedule for 2005 high school season announcedBy MICHAEL BOYLAN The football season is less than two months away and the schedules for the 2005 season are in. Fayette County, which finished 1-9 the last two years, is looking to improve in a big way in their final year in AAAAA. They, along with Starrs Mill, will drop to AAAA in 2006. The Tigers open the season at home with Upson Lee (8-3 in 2004) on Aug. 19 and then travel to Tara Stadium in Jonesboro to take on the Cardinals (4-5-1 in 2004) on Aug. 26. The Tigers will then face the South Gwinnett Comets (5-5 in 2004) on the road before opening up a two game home stand against the Carrollton Trojans (12-1 in 2004) on Sept. 9 and the Newnan Cougars (6-5 in 2004) on Sept. 16. Newnan will be the Tigers first region game of the year. The Tigers will follow that game with a game at Union Grove (3-7 in 2004) on Sept. 23, a home game against Lovejoy (8-4 in 2004) Sept. 30, a game at East Coweta (6-5 in 2004) on Oct. 7 and a home game against Mundys Mill (3-6-1) on Oct. 14. Fayette County then enjoys a bye week before closing out the season against Starrs Mill (10-2) on Oct. 28. There are no cake walks in the season but it is the same slate of teams the Tigers faced last year though the make up of each team is different this year. The Tigers will have to find players to replace some important pieces on both offense and defense and hope that the rising upper classmen are ready to lead the team back to contending for a region title. |
