Bad Links? | Rising Starr awarded $10K for excellence in educationA total of $10,000 has been awarded to Rising Starr Middle by the Georgia Department of Education for being a National Lighthouse School to Watch. Rising Starr was designated a Lighthouse School in 2003 after a lengthy evaluation process. Lighthouse Schools are pace setters in middle level education and serve as mentors to other schools wishing to attain high levels of achievement. To obtain the Lighthouse designation, schools must prove that they are academically excellent, developmentally responsive and socially equitable. Such schools demonstrate a non-negotiable commitment to the intellectual growth, academic success and healthy development of every student. They work deliberately to diminish disparities in students' learning and achievement, and to provide opportunities for students to develop the knowledge and skills needed for democratic participation in their schools and communities. Administrators from Rising Starr are scheduled to make a presentation about the school at the National Lighthouse Schools to Watch Conference in Washington D.C. during the month of June. |
