Bad Links? | Cubs go 19-0 in spring seasonThe Peachtree City Little League Junior Cubs completed the Spring 2005 season with a 17 - 0 record. The Champion Cubs winning streak continued as they won the PTCLL World Series and finished with an overall record of 19-0. The Cubs amazing undefeated season was accomplished through the leadership and determination of the seven Rising Starr eighth graders (Danny Beadling, Alex Blackwood, Chris Claburn, Kyle Daniel, Kyle Ebbert, Brennan Wesolowski and Dylan Wilckens), as well as a group of hard working 13 year old players (Clark Adkins, Andy Lucak, Sam Mittelman, Keaton Searcy, Brandon Smith and J.P. Wormer) who quickly adapted to the new league and made an impact from the first game to the last. The Cubs high powered offense scored 247 runs, while the pitchers, backed by an excellent defense only allowed 86 total runs. Lead off hitter and third Baseman, Alex Blackwood showed blazing speed on the bases, and four players (Danny Beadling, Kyle Ebbert, Kyle Daniel and Brennan Wesolowski) hit over 500. Sam Mittelman had a stellar season behind the plate, catching 75 percent of the innings while batting over .300. The Cubs strong defense was led by shortstop Daniel and middle infielders Wesolowski and Wilckens, while the outfield was led by centerfielder Ebbert, whose speed and strong arm combined for several assists, including getting a runner at the plate. Searcy, Smith and Wormer had to make the biggest leap from the smaller fields of the Majors, and played very well in both the infield and outfield. The Cubs starting pitchers, Beadling, Daniel and Claburn, backed by relievers Wesolowski, Lucak and Adkins combined for a team ERA of 3.60 (only 56 earned runs) while striking out 177 batters. Beadling, the MVP of the Cubs, had a terrific season, both at the plate (.635 batting average, 48 RBIs, seven doubles, four triples and six home runs, including a grand slam in the World Series championship game) and on the mound (13-0 with 77 strikeouts). The Cubs hope their winning ways will continue next season, as at least half of the players will be returning. |
