Bad Links? | NotableA number of local youth golfers participated in the Westfield Georgia PGA Junior Championship this week at West Lake Country Club in Augusta, Ga. Fayettevilles Jessi Mitchell placed seventh in the girls division with a score of 187. On the boys side, Blake Harbin of Sharpsburg tied for third with a score of 145 and Fayettevilles Nicklaus Ward placed 44th with a 166. The Westfield Junior PGA Championship, open to boys and girls ages 17 and younger, features a national field of boys and girls champions from each of the PGA of Americas 41 Sections and special invitees. The PGA of America is celebrating the 30th year of the Junior PGA Championship, which has attracted more than 200,000 juniors since its origin in 1976. Past competitors include many of todays leading PGA and LPGA touring professionals, such as Tiger Woods, Justin Leonard, Phil Mickelson, Stewart Cink, Scott Verplank, Grace Park, Cristie Kerr, Dottie Pepper and Michelle McGann. |
