Bad Links? | PTC Warriors complete 9-0 seasonWith a 9-7 come from behind victory over archrival Newnan, the Under 13 Peachtree City Warriors Lacrosse Team became the first team in Peachtree City Lacrosse history to post an undefeated regular season at 9-0. As a result the team was seeded first in the Sate Tournament to be held May 13-15 in Roswell. A factor that makes this unbeaten team even more impressive is that only seven of the teams 21 players had even played field lacrosse prior to this season. Additionally, only four players returned from last years team that posted a very successful record of 12-1. While many were convinced that this would be a down year for the team, Coachs Jim Gilles, Chris Klinker, Jason Eck and Mike Neill all agree on the reason for the unlikely result, smart players. Coach Jim Gilles says, While last years team was very experienced, athletic and talented, we noticed immediately how quickly the kids picked up everything we taught them. Coach Klinker also noted that the team was very emotional and easily motivated by any perceived challenge. While the team regularly beat all comers in the first 8 games, the undefeated season was in serious doubt facing a 5-1 halftime deficit in the final regular season tilt against the home standing Newnan team. Suddenly, a team that had never been behind at any point prior had to find a way to win. The comeback was led by the defense of Brian Walsh and Daniel Price (17 caused turnovers), Goalie Josh Klinker (only 2 goals allowed in three quarters), Attackman Mike Eck (8 goals), and the ever relentless play of Midfielder Jake Neill, (12-2 on face offs and 8 assists). The Warriors out scored the opposition 8-2 in the final 24 minutes to make Peachtree City Lacrosse history. If you are interested in playing lacrosse visit www.fayettelax.com to find our more.
