What do you think of this story? | Going To the Well To Fight CancerAlfred Lord Tennyson said, "Oh that it were possible, after long grief and pain, to find the arms of my true love, around me once again" . Carol Park, mother of Peachtree City resident Susan Osborne has known long grief and pain, but unfortunately will not be reunited here on Earth with her true love, her late husband, Jack Park. Carol and Jack were married for 23 years before he succumbed to lung cancer after a long and lengthy illness. She recently honored her late husband and their wedding anniversary at a luncheon in the Fayetteville home of Karen Jackson, Barons' Ball Co-Chairperson, by making a $10,000 donation to the American Cancer Society's 2005 Barons' Ball. Park and her husband were blessed with a second chance at true love. Once young college sweethearts, they were denied the opportunity to marry by Mrs. Park's parents who felt she was too young to commit to marriage at the age of 19. Both Carol and Jack went off to separate colleges, both married and raised children with other spouses. After their marriages ended in divorce, the couple was reunited by Jack's brother who arranged a lunch meeting on April 21, 1976. Upon greeting his long lost sweetheart Jack declared, "You smell the same." Apparently that was good enough to rekindle the lost love, Jack proposed to Carol two dates later and they were married May 20,1977. To thank and acknowledge Mrs. Park for her generous donation, Mrs. Jackson's husband, Jake, designed and hand crafted a wooden wishing well. The wishing well will be displayed at the Barons' Ball and other local events to gather the heartfelt wishes of anyone who would like to wish away a cancer diagnosis, wish for a cure, or wish for the embrace of a one true love, or any loved one lost to cancer. The third Annual American Cancer Society - Fayette County's Barons Ball will be held November 5, 2005 at the Kiwanis Exhibition Hall in Fayetteville. The Barons Ball is a major source of funding for the American Cancer Society. The proceeds from this event will contribute to the local programs of the American Cancer Society that are made available to our community free of charge as well as funding research and development. If you would like to receive an invitation to the 2005 Barons Ball, receive a corporate sponsorship package, or make a wish in the wishing well, please contact Sheri Waynick, Community Income Manager, American Cancer Society, Fayette County at 770-460-8920. | |
