Bad Links? | Seminoles are Smoltz-Grissom championsThe 12u Georgia Seminoles from Peachtree City went 8-0 to win the 2005 Smoltz/Grissom Wood Bat Classic. Thirty-two 12u teams from as far away as California and New York came to Fulton County on Memorial Day Weekend to play in what has grown into one of the largest wood bat tournaments in the country. Over 100 teams participated in this tournament from the 6u thru 18u age groups. The Seminoles won the 12u Championship over The Orange County Aztec from California by a score of 6-2. The 12u Championship Game was televised live locally on Comcast Cable last Monday and was televised again on Wednesday. To get to the Championship Game the Seminoles beat several out of state teams. They won games over teams such as Lansing Oakland A&W from Michigan, Roberto Clemente Wolves from New York, Central Florida Red Raiders and Tallahassee Florida Titians. The Seminoles ended the tournament allowing only three runs in eight games while scoring 51 runs. Heavy rains delayed the start of the Championship Game, but after a three hour delay both teams took the field ready to play in this first ever live televised youth baseball game in Georgia. Both teams wore Smoltz/Grissom uniforms and received a special visit from Fayette County resident and San Francisco Giant Marquis Grissom. The Fulton County Parks and Recreation Department did an outstanding job putting this event together as many volunteer workers helped make this once in a life time experience for the Georgia Seminoles. In the 13u age group another local team the Fayette Bulldogs also had a great showing finishing the tournament with a 3-1-1 record. The Bulldogs had big wins over the Sharpsburg Red Sox 6-4, The East Cobb War Eagles 5-4 and the Old National Braves 9-1. |
