Bad Links? | Lightning win close games on home standThe Southern Crescent Lightning closed their longest home stand of the season on a winning note. Taking three of four games by a total of six points, the Lightning improved their record to 12-5 and have shown the other teams in the league that they can win the close ones. On Saturday night, the Lightning beat the Gainesville Knights 120-119. They built a 61-55 lead by the half but Gainesville had the edge going into the fourth quarter. The Lightning built a good lead in the fourth but the Knights charged back and made an inspired run to the finish, nearly squeaking out the win. Nate Williams led the Lightning with 24 points and 13 rebounds, while Marcus Taylor added 22 points. Bobby Brown and Jonathan Hargett each had 15 points for the Lightning. On Sunday, the Lightning had leads in each of the four quarters against the Macon Blaze but they failed to put the game away when they had the chance and eked out a 106-104 win. With 3:45 remaining in the third quarter the Lightning had an 80-65 lead. They would not score again in the quarter and with seven minutes to go in the fourth their lead was down to one point, 88-87. Brown led the Lightning with 25 points, while Dajan Smith added 20. Four other players scored in double figures; Williams (14), Taylor and Hargett (12) and Jimmy Baxter (10). The Lightning will play at the Carolina Heat on Friday and will host them next Tuesday at 7 p.m. For more information on the Southern Crescent Lightning, visit www.wbalightning.com.
