Bad Links? | Bethlehem Bapt. celebrates 138th anniv.By CAROLYN CARY When Bethlehem Baptist Church was first organized in 1867, there were only 8,000 people in Fayette County, and the community of Peachtree City was 92 years away from incorporation. It is located on South Dividend Drive across from Peachtree City Falcon Field Airport. The brick exterior hides a white framed structure that had undergone several renovations. The church is proud of its great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren who are descended from the charter members. However, many new members now call this Spirit Filled Church home. The congregation has only had eight pastors since its existence. The present pastor is the Rev. Dwight Elder and he welcomes all visitors and new members. The church backs up to railroad tracks that run through the industrial area. Its cemetery is located just over the tracks. It was purchased in1904 by three members for $31.25 and contains the remains of many ancestors. On Saturday, June 18, members of the church, along with officials from Peachtree City, and the Peachtree City Historic Preservation Society, will unveil a historical marker. The event is at 4 p.m. and everyone is cordially invited. The address is 475 Dividend Drive and is on the left-hand side of the road when traveling south. The church can be reached at 770-631-0267. |
