Bad Links? | PTC OKs rezoning for Delta Credit U.By CAL BEVERLY Delta Air Lines may be singing the financial blues, but the Delta Employees Credit Union is singing a happy tune after getting the green light last Thursday night from the Peachtree City Council to construct its new Fayette County location at Wisdom Road and Ga. Highway 74 North. The DECU location on the intersections northeast corner will feature a 39,000 square-foot building with an atrium. A site plan is expected to go before the citys Planning Commission June 13. The council by a 5-to-0 vote approved the rezoning of two tracts totaling nearly four acres from Agricultural-Reserve to Office-Institutional to house the newest office of the states largest credit union. Residents of the adjacent Fairfield subdivision sought and got several concessions from DECU, including a meandering buffer between the parking lot and the nearest houses. DECU also agreed to restrict public access to the building to the period between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m. and to tow any overflow vehicles using prohibited after-hours parking in the parking lot. Lights in the parking areas nearest the houses will be on timers to shut off after 11 p.m. A cart path to the credit union will run alongside Wisdom Road adjacent to Fairfield, a stipulation required in the rezoning. DECU becomes the second largest credit union to have a significant presence in Peachtree City. The first was the Southern Federal Credit Union less than a mile south in the Westpark office-retail area. DECU reported assets exceeding $2.6 billion at the end of 2004, according to the credit unions annual report, putting it among the top 20 largest credit unions in the country by asset size. DECU is independent of Delta Air Lines, company officials assured council, and will prosper regardless of Deltas fate. |
