Bad Links? | Oxendine speaks to chamber groupBy CAROLYN CARY John W. Oxendine, Georgias insurance and fire safety commissioner, spoke to the Small Business division of the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce. The program was sponsored by Linda Mackey Insurance, and the event was one in a continuing education series held by the chamber. You are among the 8.5 million bosses I have in Georgia, he began. If it burns or blows up, its my responsibility to look into the matter. Oxendine received his law degree in 1987 from Mercer University in Macon and was sworn in to his present office in January, 1995. Each year his office is responsible for investigating over 700 fires, inspecting 85,000 manufactured homes, and inspecting 12,000 public buildings for state fire code compliance. He appoints the state fire marshal, assists local fire departments with investigations, regulates explosives and hazardous materials, and inspects and licenses racetracks. We have a copy of every insurance policy that is allowed to be written in Georgia, and if you are unsure that youre getting what the salesman promised, just call us, he said. Well be glad to go over the matter with you. He stressed that, to serve individuals and small business persons, his office is open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Call 404-656-2070 or go to www.gainsurance.org for more information. |
