Bad Links? | More discussion coming on Coweta sign ordinance By JOHN THOMPSON Coweta Countys revised sign ordinance is expected to be one of the chief topics of discussion at next weeks Coweta County Commission meeting. On May 17, the board adopted a revised sign ordinance after a lawsuit arose that challenged Fayette Countys sign ordinance. But Cowetas head of planning, Robert Tolleson, said there are still a few items that need to be settled. The county has limited the size of a sign on a residence to six feet, but has not regulated how many signs could be placed in a yard. If theres no regulation, that could get out of control, he said. The new ordinance also abolishes any signs in the right-of-ways, which could cause a problem for some real estate agents and companies. We used to have a provision that allowed real estate signs from Friday afternoon until Sunday afternoon, but that has been deleted, he added. Monument signs are also addressed in the revised ordinance. Tolleson explained the county used to have a sliding scale that was tied to the size of right of ways that signs were placed. But now, monument signs can be no higher than 8 feet. For a single tenant, the maximum sign area is 60 feet and multi-tenants is 100 feet. The County will discuss the issue at its 9 a.m. meeting Tuesday morning. |
