Bad Links? | PTC honors fallen heroes By MICHAEL J. THOMPSON On a day when Americans honored the sacrifices made by soldiers, more than 200 people gathered in the First Presbyterian Church for Peachtree Citys Memorial Day celebration. The event was scheduled to be outside, but inclement weather pushed the memorial celebration indoors. As we celebrate Memorial Day in peaceful Peachtree City, we need to remember those who work tirelessly to ensure that freedom prevails, said David Epps, the Peachtree City Police Chaplain and a retired Marine. The theme of the event was Protect the Hometowns, and We Protect the Homeland. Going along with the theme, Bob Hardin, the director of the Georgia Information Sharing and Analysis Center in the state Office of Homeland Security, was the guest speaker at the event. He is a resident of Fayetteville. We must remember those who have fallen... although they may be gone, they will remain in our hearts, for theyre truly modern day patriotic warriors, he said. Hardin, whose son is currently deployed in Iraq with a Navy SEALs diving team, said that we owe our remembrance to our many friends and family members who have paid for our freedom with their blood, sweat and tears. Our freedom has supreme costs, he said. Incessant rain forced the cancellation of the golf cart parade that runs from the Gathering Place to City Hall Plaza. Throughout the program,The Air National Guard Band of the South played patriotic songs and honored each military service branch by playing their respective anthems. The event was hosted by the Peachtree Kiwanis Club, the Peachtree Post of the VFW and the Citys Leisure Services Division.
