Bad Links? | Flat Rock Middle wins region volleyball titleThe Flat Rock Middle School Lady Eagles topped off a perfect 10-0 season by winning the Fayette County Region Volleyball Tournament this past weekend. And they did so without losing a single game. Flat Rock, coached by Paul Collins and Mystic Thompson, hosted the five Fayette County middle school teams all of whom came in with hopes of taking the prestigious title back to their school. The Eagles made it to the championship round by handily defeating Booth and Rising Starr during the first two rounds. Rising Starr defeated a strong team from Whitewater in a nail-biter, by winning two out of three games in that match. The win earned them a birth in the championship match. The final showdown came down to the same two teams that battled for the win last year, Rising Starr and Flat Rock, but this time it was the Lady Eagles who took the title in two games, 25-18 and 25-10. I am extremely proud of this Eagle team. They have worked very hard to improve their skills and produce a really competitive team, said coach Collins. Fayette County has seen a tremendous increase in the popularity of volleyball in recent years. The sport has only been offered in middle school for two years, yet the level of ability each team brought to this tournament was nothing short of impressive. |
