Bad Links? | OLM raises funds with special raceSenoia Speedway hosted a Faster Pastor race recently during their bi-weekly excitement of the Georgia Asphalt Series. The race pitted Father Vic Galier, pastor of St. Matthews in Tyrone against Coach Mark Waxmonsky of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic High School, who was filling in for Mercy Chaplain Father Paul Burke. Father Vic, dubbed by the track announcer as Father Vic hit-the-stick Galier by the track announcer drove the #33 street stock car to a checkered flag victory over Waxmonsky. Although no official Speedway scores weree announced, the crowd roared wildly anyway as the two man race zoomed around the track, dirt flying and noise battering ear drums. it was known that no speed records were shattered but the level of laughter and shouting exceeded normal Speedway standards. After greeting his opponent in the Speedways winner circle, Father Vic admitted that it was his first race appearance but hinted that he would be seen again, challenging anyone to take him on. I would repeat it in a heartbeat, he said, adding that he was very pleased to do something that would support the fine education provided by Mercy. Heather Dalton, a member of the OLM Bobcats Club, reported that the Faster Pastor race netted over $7,000 for the coffers of the schools club that will assist Mercys athletic programs. Dalton thanked Speedway operators Smitty and Caroline Lee, whose son, Doc attends the school, for hosting the race. |
