Bad Links? | UDC chapter presents military crossesFrankie Lyle Chapter No. 2074 of the United Daughters of the Confederacy in Jonesboro held a Confederate Memorial Day Service at Stately Oaks Plantation. The service took place in an authentic period schoolhouse located on the property. During the service, seven Crosses of Military Service were awarded to veterans for their military service. To be eligible for a Cross of Military Service awarded by the United Daughters of the Confederacy the recipient must be a lineal descendant of a Confederate Soldier or Sailor. Among those receiving awards was Fayetteville resident Lilla Coggin, accepting a World War I Cross awarded posthumously to her father Weyman Evans for his service in the U.S. Army. She also accepted a World War II Cross awarded posthumously to her cousin Tom Harper for his service in the U.S. Marine Corps. Edward Travis of Fayetteville received the World War II Cross for his service in the U.S. Army. Joe Bray of Jonesboro receiveed a Cross for his service in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Ronald Pittman of Marietta accepted a World War II Cross awarded posthumously to his father Homer Pittman who served in the U.S. Navy. Debbie Bray of Jonesboro accepted a World War II Cross awarded posthumously to her grandfather Mr. Charles Bray for his service in the U.S. Army. |
