What do you think of this story? Bad Links? | Atlanta Pops American PrideFree concert celebrates freedom
The Atlanta Pops Orchestra, under the direction of John Head, will return to the Villages Amphitheater this year for an encore performance May 28 beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Memorial Day weekend. The concert is sponsored by the Main Street Tourism Association, and funded with the profits generated from their summer concert series. This is the second year the Pops have performed at the Villages. The program will include a color guard and brief program at 7:30 with the musical segment beginning at 7:45. Major General Ted Mallory will emcee the program. The first part of the evenings festivities will include the Big Band sounds of the late great Glenn Miller, Les Brown and Benny Goodman. The second part will be an American salute with a program that includes solos performances by Lori Morgan performing her tribute to the Veterans which will include Another Soldiers Coming Home. The Southern Crescent Chorale, directed by Janice Folsom will also accompany the Pops on a variety of patriotic pieces. John Head, musical director and conductor of the Atlanta Pops, is currently the coordinator of Brass Studies at the Georgia State University. The late Robert Shaw recently made the following remarks about John Head: John Head may well be the best thing that has ever happened to the symphonic pops field in a long time... a fine instrumental soloist, an expert arranger, a seasoned conductor, a superb program builder and promoter and an engaging, witty platform personality. The show is free. Gates open at 6:30 p.m. Chairs will be available but there are no assigned seats. For further information call Fayetteville Main Street at 770-461-6029.
