Bad Links? | First Social Studies Trivia Night a successOver 120 students and their families participated in Fayette Middles first social studies trivia night, some taking home big prizes for their knowledge in the subject. Throughout the year, the school has hosted a curriculum night for each subject area, giving students and their families an opportunity to have fun learning together. For the last subject of the year, the social studies teachers decided to do something different. We wanted to change things up a little bit. The social studies teachers worked very hard to make this a night to remember, said teacher Georgia Frisch. Students and their families formed teams for a friendly competition. Eighth grade Georgia history teacher Jason Barnes served as the announcer for the evening. Trivia questions covered the social studies curriculum taught in the sixth, seventh and eighth grades. Local businesses also helped to make the night special by donating many highly sought after prizes, which were awarded to teams that chalked up the highest scores. Among the large prizes awarded were a $400 Savings Pac from Papa Johns that went to Abigail Williams and her team, The Smart Puppies, and $80 worth of reference books from Barnes and Noble won by Rachel Jones and her team, The Joneses. I told Rachel that if she gets tired of the atlas I will gladly take it off her hands, said Frisch. Other big winners include Alex Anderson of the A Team and Jennifer Harper of the Harper Family team, who each took home four Dixieland Fun Park ride coupons, Corey Carhahan of the Clever Carnahans and Adele and Andrew Williamson of the Williamson Winners who each received a $25 Pizza Hut gift card, Gabrielle Castelberry-Gordan of Einsteins Eggheads won two complimentary entrees for Applebees Neighborhood Bar and Grill, Landon Faber of the Hurricanes was awarded a National Geographic video, Tony Golden of the Razerbacks received four free Chick-fil-A sandwich coupons, Jason Hartley of 451 Degrees won a $25 Ruby Tuesday gift card and Kate Jablonski of the World Geography Wizards was given a free dessert and Alva Powell of H.A.T. received a free appetizer, both from Johnny Carinos. Additionally, all students were presented a free buffet coupon for Stevie Bs, 41 students received a free ride ticket for Dixieland Fun Park and every adult and child was given a free Chick-fil-A sandwich coupon. |
