Treat it now or treat it laterFor over 10 years, I have been treating patients with problems related to old accidents, which they did not realize injured them. Whiplash, often associated with severe automobile accidents, can occur from a number of incidents, including falls, tripping and catching yourself, amusement park rides, tumbling off skis or ski board, school sports and cheerleading and even slamming on the brakes to avoid an accident. Damage to your automobile or how you feel immediately afterward have little to do with whether you sustain a neck injury. Many injuries occur without any sustained symptom surfacing for one to 30 years. And by the time they do, people associate the symptom with aging, of all things. The wear and tear I see on x-ray is from aging of course, but premature aging from an old injury. These injuries may not be symptomatic, but research shows that they are associated with lower cognitive function, weaker immune systems, poor posture and balance, fatigue and loss of vitality. At this time, when people are looking for things to restore youthful appearance, it is important to look within, at your spine. Many do not know that Chiropractic is the only proven effective treatment for chronic whiplash injury. The next Community Health Talk is scheduled for June 9 at 10 a.m. at Heritage of Peachtree Retirement and Assisted Living Community (770-631-3461). Come find out about the latest research on the important topic or contact the Durden Chiropractic Clinic (770-631-7600) to have this information mailed to you. Dr. Marilyn L. Durden
