IBD support group to meet next monthA new health-oriented support group for the Fayette-Coweta area is now being formed by a couple who received national attention last year for their struggles with illness. Beginning June 28, the Crohns & Colitis (IBD) support group will meet the fourth Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. in Conference Room C on the third floor of Piedmont Fayette Hospital. The group is being formed in association with the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America (www.ccfa.org). Lisa Andrews of Fayetteville won a Great Comebacks award in 2004 from the Crohns & Colitis Foundation of America and ConvaTec, an ostomy manufacturer, for her battle against Crohns and coming back successfully to live with an ileostomy. The interest and feedback from that award motivated Lisa and her husband Mark to organize the support group. Mark and I are excited about starting this group, said Lisa. As a result of my many years with Crohn's and its resulting complications, we feel led to give back of our experience and support and help others walking on this same path. Support group meetings will include special speakers such as physicians, therapists, and educational/medical/research related experts. Topics will include, but are not limited to, the following as they relate to Crohn's & Colitis (IBD): nutrition, surgical procedures, medical treatments, relationships, mental health/depression, physical activity, school and work, IBD and the family.
