Bad Links? | YMCA prepares for open house, Healthy Kids DayCombine summer and the great outdoors and you get fun at the YMCA. Whether its creepy crawly creatures, sidewalk art, fort building, caring for the animals in our petting zoo, or rehearsing for the drama camp, theres something to discover and experience for everyone at the Fayette Family YMCA. Visit the YMCA and its famous Play Park, at 215 Huiet Road in Fayetteville, Sunday, May 22, between 2-5 p.m. Kids can challenge parents during activities or enjoy face painting, food, an art show and camp tours. Learn about healthy food choices. Meet aquatic and camp staff as well as Y-Guide Volunteers. Register for day camp, swim lessons, fall after school, soccer, and Y- Guide programs. YMCA Camp Deer Point programs are available for all ages and interests. Campers may enjoy swimming, arts and crafts, music, archery, sports, devotions, cooperative games, action learning, and hiking. Special events and theme activities will make each week different and exciting. The YMCA Character Development Program allows the YMCA to partner with parents in teaching children the benefits of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility. The YMCA doesnt just teach archery, it teaches values through archery. New this year are three specialty camps. Soccer Camp is for ages 5-13 held June 27-July 1. Certified coaches of the Challenger British Soccer Company will be providing the instruction designed to strengthen current skills and develop new ones. Safety School offers young children, ages 4-6, the skills and abilities to be safe. Safety School educates children regarding traffic, pedestrian, fire, school bus safety, stranger awareness, poison prevention and litter control. Safety School is offered Saturday mornings or afternoons beginning June 18, and is a five week session. Drama Camp is a two-week program, June 6-17, for ages 13-17. Teens will learn all aspects of putting on a production through actual experience with staging, directing, costume and set design as well as learning roles in the one-act play Alice in Wonderland. This fairy tale parody is being sponsored by the Peachtree City Rotary Club and directed by Fayette Players. The production will be performed for the public Friday and Saturday evenings, June 17-18, at the YMCA. Registration deadline for drama camp is May 27. Camp Deer Point will open May 31 for the entire summer. Camp activities are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. but pre-camp (7-9 a.m.) and post-camp (4-6:30 p.m.) are available free of charge. Traditional one-week sessions are $110. Movin On Camp features exciting, educational excursions for $150 per week. Youth 13 - 15 may participate in a three week Leaders in Training program for $250 followed by a Counselor in Training three week program for $250. Specialty camp fees are: Soccer $200, Safety School $30, and Drama Camp $350. YMCA swim lessons are available for all ages with classes from parent-tot through adult being offered for two week sessions. Lessons are $50 per two week session. Five different two-week sessions are offered to allow swimmers to add new strokes, gain confidence, and advance their swimming ability. The YMCA is open to and serves all individuals. Financial assistance is available on a need basis. Volunteers are always welcome to assist with programs or facility upkeep. Volunteers are vital in helping the YMCA in accomplishing its goal to build strong kids, strong families, strong communities. The Fayette Family YMCA is located off Ga. Highway 54 on 29 acres of land. Facilities include an outdoor pavilion, the Chimneys lodge, administration, sports field, sand volleyball courts, picnic area, and the Fayette Family Play Park.
