Bad Links? | Tyrone robber still on the looseBy LEE WILLIAMS Tyrone police are on the lookout for a man who robbed CVS Thursday and got away with $30 in cash. No one was hurt in the incident, but it definitely shook up some residents who live in the largely rural community located in northwestern Fayette County. Police responded to the drug store at 100 Carriage Oaks Drive at 10:30 a.m. and spoke with cashier, Jahmel Madden, and manager, Frank Barton, who told police they had been robbed. Madden was the first person the robber approached for money, according to the report. An unknown black man wearing a white shirt, black pants and a black skull cap approached the cashier, Ms. Madden, and stated he wanted to buy a carton of cigarettes, police said. As she was reaching for them, he said he wanted to buy two cartons. As she reached for the cartons, the suspect leaned onto the counter and told her to give him all of the money. Surprised by the demand, the cashier retorted: Youre kidding. The robber restated his demand and reached into his right front pocket as if he had a gun. However, a weapon was never produced, police said. Madden told Barton who complied with the robbers demands. The robber followed Barton as he retrieved money from two cash registers, police said. The suspect, then said, Lets go to the pharmacy, and as Mr. Barton was walking back to the pharmacy the suspect exited out the front door. Barton chased the robber out into the parking lot. The robber jumped into a light gray Chevrolet Cavalier and fled from the store. Tyrone Police Chief Johnny Hay said Thursdays armed robbery was the first the city has seen this year. We tend to run one a year and I am hoping that was ours for the year, Hay said. Hay applauded how the manager and cashier handled the situation, and he is hopeful they will nab the robber. |
