Bad Links? | Educators, business owners honored by ABWAThree chapters of the American Business Women's Association celebrated each chapter's anniversary as well as recognized their business associates of the year and awarded and honored their college scholarship recipients at a gala Saturday evening at the Atlanta Civic Center entitled "Puttin on the Glitz." This event was a first-ever collaborative effort hosted by the Hidden Hills, North Lake Charter and Snapfinger Woods chapters of the ABWA. The educational chair for the Northlake charter chapter, Angela Moore, delivered scholarship awards to the following scholarship recipients: Jasmine Williams, Univ. of Alabama; Justin Thomas, Albany State Univ.; Karissa Grier, Southwest DeKalb High (Agnes Scott College); Jasmine Terry, Southwest DeKalb High (Savannah State Univ.); Tiffany Johnson, Spelman College; and Teddy Taylor III, M.L. King High (Tennessee State) for their exemplary scholastics achievements, state as well as national recognition. The Business associates honored were Deirdre York, owner and operator of Chick-fil-A on Wesley Chapel Road in Decatur; Pamela Rynolds, owner of Exclusively You Shoes Design in Fayetteville; and Lt. Dr. Paige Joyner of the Civil Air Patrol division of the U.S. Air Force and owner of Compliance +, which specializes in HIPPA privacy and OSHA compliance. Noted guest speakers included U.S. Rep. Cynthia McKinney, state Sen. Steen Miles and state Sen. Steve Henson. The gala was a great success and fund raiser for the three chapters where proceeds will go to benefit each chapter's scholarship fund to deserving students. |
