Bad Links? | Locals do well in state golf tournamentsThe McIntosh girls golf team placed third in the AAAA state golf tournament, behind Woodward Academy and Ware County. The Lady Chiefs shot a 160 and were led by Amanda Carpenter, who shot a 79 and tied for fifth place. Katie Dale shot an 81 and placed eighth and Bethany Grahm shot an 87 and had an eagle on the par four sixth hole. The McIntosh Lady Chiefs placed second in the AAAAA state tournament last year. The Starrs Mill High School golf team finished fifth in the state in this weeks AAAAA State Golf Finals, played on Jekyll Islands Oleander Course. The 5th place finish is the highest state ranking that the Starrs Mill golf program has ever finished, stated Coach Chad Philips. The boys turned in a lot of solid, low scores over a very long day of golf. The AAAAA State Finals format is 36 holes of golf for each player, to be played on the same day. Each team uses the four best scores from the six players on the team after each 18 hole round. The Starrs Mill low scores recorded after the morning round of golf were Connor MacBean 74, Mitsuki Shimba 77, Wade Holland 78, and Ben Creighton 78. Scores used from the afternoon round were shot by Mitsuki Shimba 74, Ben Creighton 75, Bo Tiller 78, and Wade Holland 78. |
