Bad Links? | Starrs Mill and McIntosh send teams to the state semi-finalsBy MICHAEL BOYLAN McIntosh and Starrs Mill are both storming through the state tennis playoffs in their respective classifications. In the AAAA playoffs, the McIntosh boys defeated Hardaway last Thursday 3-1 with Nathan She and Joe Styga winning singles matches, while the doubles team of Will Truex and David Widtfeldt won their match. In the quarterfinals on Monday the boys traveld to Bainbridge and won 3-2 with all three singles players, Stefan James (6-4,6-2), She (6-4,6-1) and Styga (6-0,6-1) winning their matches. The win qualified the boys for the state semifinals which begin in Stone Mountain today at 10 a.m. They will take on Marist. The Lady Chiefs defeated Ware County last Friday 3-0 with Stephanie Daughenbaugh winning her singles match 6-1,6-0 and the doubles teams of Lyndsi Tufte and Lauren Wilde (6-3,6-2) and Kristin Cobb and Jessica Piester (6-4,6-2) winning their matches. They faced Greenbrier at the Peachtree City Tennis Center on Tuesday and won 4-1. Kendall Wilde won in three sets while Daughenbaugh won in two and the doubles teams of Tufte and Wilde and Cobb Piester also won in straight sets. In AAAAA tennis action, Starrs Mills boys defeated Colquitt County 5-0 last week. Singles winners were Derrick Davison (6-0,6-2), Eric Jackson (6-1,6-2) and Evan Foster (6-2,6-10, while the doubles teams of Ben Matlaga and Keith Kowal (6-4,6-1) and Stefan Maher and Ahmed Mahama (6-2,6-1) also won. The Lady Panthers faced Lowndes last week and won 5-0. Singles winners were Gabby Acuna (6-1,6-2), Jessica Lange (6-1,6-2) and Lindsay Dillon (6-0,6-1), while the doubles teams of Adriana Acuna and Caroline Smith (7-6(7-0), 6-0) and Jenna McPherson and Ashley Sczcerpaniec (3-6,6-3,6-0) also won. On Tuesday both the boys and girls faced Valdosta at the Peachtree City Tennis Center. The boys won 5-0 with Davison (6-0,6-1), Jackson (6-0,6-4), Foster (6-0,6-0), Matlaga and Kowal (6-3,6-4) and Maher and Mahama (6-4,6-1) getting wins. The girls won 4-1 with all three singles players Gabby Acuna (6-2,6-3), Lange (6-1,6-2) and Dillon (6-3,6-1) getting wins. The doubles team of Sczerpaniec and McPherson alos won their match in three sets (6-4,4-6,6-4).
