Man nabbed in Fayette pot bust

A Union city man was arrested May 5 at a Fayette County address where 39 pounds of suspected marijuana was seized.

Enrique Refugio Gutierrez, 27, of a Westbrook Road address, was charged with felony trafficking in marijuana and with a lesser count of misdemeanor possession of less than one ounce of marijuana, according to Fayette County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Lt. Belinda McCastle.

McCastle said the Fayette County Drug Suppression task force received iniformation from U.S. Customs agents that an enormous amount of marijuana haed been shipped from Mexico to a Fayette County address.

Based on that information, investigators obtained a search warrant for an undisclosed location in Fayette County, McCastle said. Upon executing the search warrant, investigators arrested Gutierrez and seized 39 pounds of suspected marijuana, she said. The misdemeanor charge for possession resulted from the small amount of suspected marijuana in Gutierrez’s possession.

McCastle said the investigation is ongoing.
