Bad Links? | Landmark girls win fifth or sixth title in a rowBy MICHAEL BOYLAN No Oops about it, they did it again. The Landmark Christian School girls track team won the Class A state meet for the fifth year in a row. Six if you count the co-championship with Metter in 2000. The Lady War Eagles scored 76 points to take the title. They had three individual state champion performances in the meet. Ciara Willis was the state champ in the 200 meter dash (25.55), Heather Hayes was the state champ in the pole vault (11) and the 1,600 meter relay team of Hayes, Willis, Kaity Bulger, Christian Maguire, Evette Holyfield and Lynette Fitts (4:03.35) were state champs as well. Many of those names popped up in the state placements as well. Willis took second in the 400 meter dash (57.81), while Hayes finished second in the 800 meter run (2:28.56) and third in 300 meter hurdles (48.68) behind Fitts who placed second (47.19). Bulger took fourth in the 1,600 meter run (5:39) and third in the 3,200 meter run (11:56.94) and was followed in each race by Jessie Thames, fifth in the 1,600 (5:45.55) and fourth in the 3,200 (12:26.31). Our Lady of Mercy had a state champion of their own in the 100 meter intermediate hurdles, Leigh Ann Burton (15.46). The Lady Bobcats were also represented by Hannah Allen, eighth in the shot put, 322 and the 400 meter relay team of Katie Bisholf, Lydia Blackshear, Leigh Ann Burton, Kelsey Oberst, Victoria Ifeidi and Marina Fleming, which placed seventh (55.01). Our Lady of Mercy placed 17th overall in Class A. In the AAAA meet, Sandy Creek had a big day. Mellany Stanislaus was a state champion in the triple jump (395.5), while placing seventh in the long jump (171). She was also a member of the 400 meter relay team that placed third (48.78). Stanislaus was joined on the team by Brandice Ware, Brenay Grimble, Iman Person, Whitney Judson and Jeanne Lyons. Ware placed seventh in the 100 meter dash (12.71). The Sandy Creek lady Patriots placed 15th overall. In the AAAAA meet, Starrs Mill and Fayette County each had some athletes rack up some good finishes. Starrs Mill, which placed 13th overall, had Kristin Olson finish third in the 100 meter high hurdles (14.81) and fourth in the 300 meter high hurdles (45.10), while Lauren Marchman took fourth in the pole vault (96), Aneesha lane took eighth in the 100 meter dash (12.86) and Ashley Zilles took eighth in the shot put (382). Fayette County, which placed 34th, had Simone Heath place fifth in discus (1213), and Cammy Andrews place sixth in the high jump (52). The boys track meet for all classifications will take place in Jefferson, Ga. this weekend. |
