Bad Links? | Morton set to speak at Fayette Dem. meetingAmy Morton, a seasoned Democratic Party activist and campaign veteran, will address the Fayette Democratic Women at their May breakfast meeting Saturday, May 14, at 9 a.m. at Right on Thyme Restaurant in Fayetteville. Morton will educate the group on recruiting Democratic women to run for office, campaigning and support for female candidates and issues that female candidates should consider and focus on during her campaign. Morton currently represents Bibb County on the state committee of the Democratic Party of Georgia. She also serves on the board and candidate selection committee of Georgia's WIN List, a political action committee dedicated to supporting women in the Democratic Party who run for state level office. In addition to assisting with several local campaigns in 2004, Morton was the state coordinator for Georgia Women for Kerry-Edwards. Her commitment to supporting the political strength of Georgia's women continues with the current project, Georgia Women VOTE! (www.georgiawomenvote.com). Morton is a licensed marriage and family therapist in private practice in Macon, where she has lived for 20 years. She has a bachelors degree in religion and philosophy from Mars Hill College in North Carolina, attended The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky. and earned a master's degree in Family Studies from Mercer University. She is an ordained Southern Baptist minister. In her private practice, she focuses on work with children, families and couples. Previously, Morton was the Coordinator of the Rainbow House in Warner Robins and worked for The Methodist Childrens Home in Macon. A graduate of Leadership Macon, Morton is active in the community, serving on the board of The Georgia Childrens Museum and as board chair for Community Partnership, the Family Connection program for Bibb County. She is married to Daryl Morton and has two children, Matthew and Tyler. Fayette Democratic Women invites all interested women in the south metro area to participate. A continental breakfast will be served for $3 per person beginning at9 a.m. The meeting will be called to order at 9:20 a.m. The group meets on the second Saturday of every month for breakfast at Right on Thyme.
