Bad Links? | Night resurfacing project on Ga. Hwy. 92 South set to beginBy LEE WILLIAMS Fayette County motorists traveling to Spalding County via Ga. Highway 92 South should expect traffic delays for the next six months. Road crews are set to begin repaving the highway soon, Georgia Department of Transportation spokeswoman Dorothy Daniel said. DOT officials met with the contractor, APAC-Southeast, to finalize details for the resurfacing of a portion of Highway 92 South in Fayette and Spalding counties, Daniel said. APAC-Southeast plans to begin work on this project tonight, Daniel said Tuesday morning. The project consists of 14.760 miles of milling, inlay, plant mix resurfacing and shoulders on SR-92 from SR-85 in Fayette County to east of Westmoreland Road in Spalding County, with the first activity at the Fayetteville end of the project, working west to east. The paving will be done between the hours of 7 p.m. and 6 a.m., Daniel said. There will be work done on the shoulders during the day, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., but there will be no lane closures during those daytime hours, Daniel said. The contract amount is $1,544,843.60, and the scheduled contract completion date is Nov. 30. Motorists are urged to search for an alternative route, or exercise caution when traveling along the highway while construction is underway. One local motorist already experienced his fair share of frustrations with the repaving project well before it even began. While traveling along Hwy. 92 South from Woolsey to Inman, the motorist noticed road work signs and other signs informing him that speeding fines would be enforced. Other motorists will encounter similar signs in the coming months, but Daniel urges motorists not to ignore them. Motorists are urged to drive carefully through any construction work zone, whether they see activity or not, Daniel said. They should be alert for lane shifts and traffic slowdowns. |
