Bad Links? | Local teens chosen for Youth TourFayette County residents Heather Stewart and Ryan DeBenedittis have been chosen to participate in Georgias 40th annual Washington Youth Tour, an all-expense-paid leadership experience sponsored by Coweta-Fayette EMC and the Georgia electric membership cooperatives. They will travel to Washington, D.C., with 91 other Georgia high school students to learn more about U.S. history, government and careers in public service. This years tour, which takes place June 16-23, will expose students to the fast paced world of politics, leadership and agenda setting. Each year the tour challenges teens to consider the part they play in history, government and the cooperative movement, encourages them to become involved citizens and prompts them to consider careers in public service. Were delighted Heather and Ryan will be attending this year, said Mary Ann Bell, director of public relations for Coweta-Fayette EMC. We are proud to be able to offer this once-in-a-lifetime experience to the teens in our community. When the group arrives in Washington, Georgias delegation will convene with more than 1,400 youth representing cooperatives across the nation. The delegates will have the opportunity to mingle with peers from other states and exchange views concerning local and national issues. During their stay, students will attend a Supreme Court lecture, a Georgia Congressional Delegation luncheon and a congressional session. The group will also visit many of the nations historical monuments and museums, such as the newly opened Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian, the Holocaust Museum and the Arlington Cemetery. Coweta-Fayette EMC is a consumer-owned cooperative providing electricity and related services to 65,000 members in Fayette, Coweta, Clayton, South Fulton, Spalding, Troop, Heard and Meriwether counties. |
