What do you think of this story? | Paul Revere and the Raiders Kick off the 2005 Season at the Villages AmphitheaterThe Bill Heard Chevrolet Summer Concert Series Kicks off the season Saturday at the Villages Amphitheater in Fayetteville and its sure to leave you Hungry for more! Paul Revere and the Raiders is the first of six concerts that will be showcased this summer at the Villages. Revere was born January 7, 1938 in Harvard, Nebraska, and grew up in Boise, Idaho. As with any unusual name, it subjected the young Revere to some schoolyard ribbing, such that even after he started in the entertainment business, he never thought of using it professionally. The music that Revere listened to as he grew up was boogie-woogie, and like many people of his age, the success of the early rockers of the mid-'50s was the inspiration to play the music himself. To the piano-playing Revere the main catalyst was Jerry Lee Lewis, whose "A Whole Lotta' Shakin' Going On" became a smash hit when he was 19. For the Raiders, the summer of 1965 was what any popular artist dreams of. Where the Action Is premiered on ABC-TV on June 27. In July, the Raiders played at a CBS records convention in Miami that lead to company approval for a nationwide summer tour. The combination of TV exposure and live experiences pushed their debut album in the charts. The chemistry of Reveres fun loving personality has been a major force in maintaining the Raiders popularity. Over the past 40+ years, he has created a highly polished act built on warmth and spontaneity. Revere uses his madcap comedy to bring back the pre-Beatle days when carefree living and having fun was where it was at. As Paul has said many times, I started this band over 40 years ago for the fun of it, and Im not going to quit till I stop having fun. Their hit songs include Great Airplane Strike, Good Thing, Louie, Louie, Kicks, Hungry, Just Like Me, and Indian Reservation.
