Bad Links? | Police put donations to good useBy LEE WILLIAMS Fayetteville police will get a chance to impact the lives of a few lucky students this year, thanks to a donation from Wal-Mart. The department received a $1,250 donation from the big Fayetteville retailer Friday. In turn, officials have decided to use the money to benefit the community. A $500 donation was made to assist with the Christmas Shop-With-A-Cop program and a $750 donation was made to assist with the Junior Police Academy, Fayetteville police spokeswoman Lt. Beverly Trainor said Tuesday. The second class of the Fayetteville Police Department Junior Police Academy will be held July 25-28. The donation made will go towards providing the students with classroom materials, Trainor said. This Christmas, the department will host its second annual Shop-With-A-Cop program where police officers take deserving kids shopping for the holidays, she said. This program is sponsored completely by donations made by community organizations and local businesses, Trainor added. |
