What do you think of this story? Bad Links? | Seeing doubleSTG presents comedy about twins
When watching those old Doublemint gum ads, it was hard not to think of the lives that the twins in the commercials led, especially when they always seemed to end up hanging around other twins. Could the twins tell their male counterparts apart and vice versa? That is the underlying premise of Nick Halls raucous comedy Beside Yourself, which opens at Southside Theatre Guild in Fairburn this Thursday and runs Thursdays-Saturdays through May 14 at 8 p.m. Though the cast is small, each actor plays two parts meaning they play both sets of twins. The cast features Southside regulars Kelly Davenport (Bill and Bob), Aron Hall (Jack and Jim), Heather May (Pam and Pat) and Rachel White (Sally and Sue). The twins are all part of a convention weekend at a beach side motel. In addition to dinner, drinks and dancing, the twins all take part in research over the weekend, filling out surveys and such. The real action takes place among the main characters rooms as each person maneuvers around their spouse and/or lover with a myriad of motivations. As the play progresses, the comedy grows larger and larger, proving that twins do have double the fun. Beside Yourself is directed by Keith Williams, who has had a lot of fun with this show and the actors, who were often confused as to which twin they were during rehearsals. The cast and crew decorated the set in the style Williams affectionately calls Tacky Tiki and the play will be set in the 1970s, which means a killer soundtrack that Williams and his wife, Jackie, spent several weekends assembling. | | |
