Bad Links? | Tyrone eyes big Wieland rezoningBy LEE WILLIAMS Tyrone planning and zoning officials are expected Thursday to unveil details surrounding a proposal submitted by John Wieland Homes to rezone 217 acres of land to build a multi-family subdivision and recreational area. According to Thursdays agenda, the commission will hold a public hearing for a land use map amendment and the rezoning of 217 acres bordered by Ga. Highway 74 South, Kirkley Road, Mann Road and Davidson Mineral Products. The property is adjacent to Wielands upscale single-family Southampton development. Wieland is requesting a land use map amendment from 1.1 (Conservation) to 1.1, 1.4 (Multi-Family) and 6 (Parks and Recreation Conservation), and a rezoning from AR (Agricultural Residential) to DR-15 (Multi-Family) conditioned upon development as single-family residential, according to the agenda. The types of homes, average selling price and proposed density was unavailable. Attempts to reach Dan Fields of John Wieland Homes or Town Manager Barry Amos for comment were unsuccessful before deadline. However Tyrone P&Z Commissioner David Nebergall confirmed the item could be discussed during the commissions 7 p.m. meeting at Tyrones Town Hall. Nebergall said he did not have any details on the application and could not comment. We have not had anything official come through on this yet, Nebergall said Monday when reached at work, but added. This piece of property has come before us before several different ways. Nebergall said his information packet had been delayed until Wednesday. But if it comes too late and the commission does not have enough time to review the matter before the meeting, Nebergall said the commission will ask for more time. |
