Bad Links? | Robbers strike again in FvilleBy LEE WILLIAMS Two assailants robbed Burger King on North Glynn Street again Monday despite concerted efforts by Fayetteville police to put a dent in the growing number of armed robbers targeting city businesses. The unidentified robbers approached Burger King employee Laverne Chester in the parking lot at 655 N. Glynn St., about 4 a.m. The men displayed a large-barreled gun and demanded Chester give them money. The robbers fled from the business after taking $500 in cash. The establishment is no stranger to robberies, but the store manager, who declined to give his name for safety reasons, is hopeful that will change. The upper management of the company is taking more steps to make the place more secure, the manager said. Whether that means hiring a security guard or implementing a video surveillance system the manager could not say for sure. The business last was robbed in February. In both instances, the robbers approached the employees in the parking lot, ordered them inside and stole money, the manager indicated. Fayetteville police stepped up patrols in response to the incident. But that had little bearing on Mondays incident. The thieves struck just minutes after the police checked the business, the manager said. They have increased their patrols, he said. The sad thing about it is, not one more minute after they left they robbed us, and they were back the next minute. The cops cannot be found at fault because they did their jobs. The manager declined to comment on whether he thought the robberies were the result of an inside job. Id rather not say, the manager said regarding the issue. Youd have to ask the cops that. Mondays armed robbery comes on the heels of several armed robberies at Fayetteville businesses over the last four months. On April 6, three male teens robbed two Waffle House customers at gunpoint in the parking lot at 700 Glynn St. about 3:30 a.m. The thieves got away with a Nextel cell phone and wallet containing $100. On March 13, a masked man with a pocket knife attempted to rob Subway on Ga. Highway 54 West near Gingercake Road. The workers ran into the back room. Their actions might have foiled the robbers effort. He left without a dime. On Feb. 9, two gunmen robbed Burger King on North Glynn St. The suspects got away with $1,000 in cash. On Dec. 7, a suspect robbed the GNC vitamin store on Pavilion Parkway in broad daylight. The suspect tied an employee up with a cell phone charger cord and ran after stealing an undisclosed amount of cash. |
