Bad Links? | Former Lady Tiger ace Bynum clicking for Tennessee TechAfter a week of outstanding pitching performances for the Golden Eagles, Tennessee Tech sophomore Bonnie Bynum has been recognized as the Ohio Valley Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week for Apr. 18, as voted on by the sports information contacts from the member institutions and the conference office. Bynum went 3-0 for the week, pitching three complete game shutouts with a 1-0 win over Lipscomb last Tuesday and two 1-0 victories over conference foe Eastern Illinois this past weekend. Bynum pitched 21 innings of shutout ball, tallying a 0.00 ERA for the week, striking out 20 and only allowing four walks for the week. Two weeks ago, she held fourth-ranked Tennessee to one run on four hits at the Tech Softball Field. The Fayetteville native and 2003 graduate from Fayette County High School has pitched well for the Golden Eagles this season, holding her own with a 16-14 record in 40 appearances and a 1.57 ERA, allowing only 52 runs, 46 earned, in 204 and two-thirds innings pitched. Bynum has seven shutouts on the season, and batters are hitting a scant .178 average at the plate against her. In only her second year with the Golden Eagles, Bynum has emerged as one of the teams true stars, picking up where past Tech pitchers Lori Bayless and Tia Brenning left off in the past year, and going from third in the rotation to the teams ace in 2005. This is Bynums second career OVC Pitcher of the Week nod, picking up her first a year ago on March 23, 2004. The Golden Eagles (22-25) are currently sixth in the OVC standings with a 7-8 conference mark. Bynum racked up numerous awards and accolades as a pitcher for Fayette County High School. She recorded 725 strikeouts in her career at Fayette County High School, was named MVP for the team several times and made the AAAAA all state team all four years. The Lady Tigers finished as region champs three of her four years and were state champions in 2002.
