Bad Links? | Arrest made in theft case By LEE WILLIAMS Peachtree City police nabbed a Harmony Village maintenance worker who allegedly stole a residents washer and dryer set. William Opheal Young, 35, of Oakcrest Drive, Atlanta, a property maintenance employee for Harmony Village, was charged with burglary and theft by taking following a Jan. 27 incident at 412 Peachtree Stations Circle. Police responded to a call after a resident reported someone stole her Whirlpool washer and dryer set while she was in the process of moving. Police discovered that a key had been used to enter her residence. After a months-long investigation, police managed to track down the alleged thief and discovered Young allegedly orchestrated the theft. On Friday, April 15, 2005, a search warrant was conducted at Mr. Youngs residence where the washer and dryer were located, Peachtree City Police Chief James Murray said. It was discovered that the items had been converted for his personal use. Young is in the Fulton County Jail for theft by receiving charges levied against him by the Atlanta Police Department. However, Young is awaiting an appearance before the Fayette County Magistrate Court Judge upon his release from the Fulton County Jail, officials said. In other matters, an alert Peachtree City police officer is being hailed for his work after he caught two alleged radio thieves in the act while on patrol in the Wisdom Woods apartment complex. Christopher Bradley Patterson, 28, of Bear Creek, Luthersville, was charged with a probation violation charge levied out of Meriwether County, possession of methamphetamine and possession of less than an ounce of marijuana. Pattersons alleged accomplice, James Eldred Hand, 32, of Main Street, Luthersville, was charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of less than an ounce of marijuana following Sundays encounter. While conducting residential patrols in the apartment complex, the officer spotted the two individuals. It appeared that the two subjects were in the process of removing a radio from a vehicle, Murray said. A routine identification check of the two subjects resulted in the discovery that one of them was wanted by a nearby law enforcement agency. The officer searched the subject before detaining Patterson and discovered the two men allegedly had methamphetamine and marijuana in their possession. During the inspection, police also allegedly recovered stolen radios from their vehicle, authorities said. |
