Bad Links? | Baseball teams pick up region wins as second half beginsWe are entering the nitty gritty of the high school baseball season with a slate of region games left before tournament play begins. Whitewaters baseball team (7-11, 2-7 region) followed a loss to Alexander last week with a doubleheader win on Saturday before falling to Chapel Hill on Monday. The Wildcats defeated Forest Park 10-6 and followed it with a 5-3 region win over Lithia Springs. Against Forest Park, Whitewater trailed 2-0 early but Mike Johnson drove in a run and Nick Rosa drove in two in the bottom of the second inning to give Whitewater the lead for good. Tom Bohrer picked up the win and Jordan Elder got the save. The hits kept coming in the second game as Ryan Johnson, Jonathan Sholar, Justin Carpenter and Kevin Lewallen all had big hits in the first inning against Lithia Springs. Elder drove in Jonathan Ashley in the fourth to give Whitewater the lead. Carpenter got his third win of the year and Lewallen got his third save. Whitewater will host Northgate this afternoon at 4 p.m. and will host McIntosh on Friday at 4 p.m. Sandy Creek (12-6, 8-3 region) has won six games in a row. The Patriots picked up a 5-3 win against Chapel Hill last week before defeating Douglas County 10-4 and Alexander 8-4. On Monday, Sandy Creek got another 8-4 win, this time over Villa Rica. The Patriots seem to have a new hero each game. Catcher Kal Cudsik provided a huge two out hit in Fridays win, while Josh Haney went 2-for-4 on Monday with two runs driven in. Sandy Creeks pitching is also coming around with sophomores Robert Jaracz and Brandon Swann stepping up. Were not making the errors we were earlier in the season and everybody is playing well together, said Coach Eddy Householder. Its been real enjoyable. Sandy Creek hosts McIntosh today at 5:30 p.m. McIntosh (10-7, 7-4 region) followed a two game win streak with a two game losing streak. After region wins over Haralson County and Lithia Springs, the Chiefs fell to Hardaway in a wild game, 15-11 and then lost a heartbreaker to Alexander on Monday 11-10. McIntosh has been able to put up a lot of runs, 107 since the start of region play on March 21, but they have given up 75 runs since then and almost half of them have come in the last four games. In 4-AAAAA, Fayette County (14-5, 5-2 region) snapped a two game losing streak by defeating Mundys Mill 10-0 on Monday. The Tigers fell to Starrs Mill 6-2 last Wednesday and then lost to Union Grove on Friday 10-8. Fayette County will play at Lovejoy tonight at 6 p.m.and will host East Coweta at 7 p.m. on Friday. Starrs Mill (13-3, 6-0 region) has remained undefeated in the region with wins over Fayette County last Wednesday, 6-2 and Newnan last Friday, 11-1. They start their second run through the region with a home game against Union Grove today. In 5-A, Landmark Christian (9-7, 6-2) picked up two region losses last week while getting a win in between. The War Eagles fell to Whitefield Academy 5-4, then defeated Eagles Landing Christian Academy 5-2 before losing to St. Francis 11-3 on Friday. They will host Mt. Zion, Carroll on Friday at 5 p.m. Our Lady of Mercy (4-10, 2-6 region) got their second region win last week by defeating Mt. Zion, Carroll 8-3 .They will host Whitefield at 5 p.m. on Friday. |
