Gospel sings expand to two nightsIf one is good, then two has to be better. And Roy Smith, the organizer of the monthly Grantville Depot Gospel Sings, has announced that beginning this month, the sings will be held two nights per month, namely the fourth Friday night and fourth Saturday night of each month. For this month, that will be April 22 and 23. Each Sing begins at 6 p.m. and usually lasts until about 9 p.m. Now that daylight savings time is here and the weather is warmer, the benefits of the depot and its appropriateness as a venue for these monthly Southern Country Gospel Sings will become apparent, said Smith. Its location as part of Colley Park and the informal family atmosphere and the outdoors placement of the chairs and performers provide an ideal ambience for this genre of music. Singers who will perform this month include: Friday, April 22, Eloise Maddox from LaGrange, Gary Johnson from Newnan, Robbie Johnson from LaGrange, and Marshall White from Grantville. Saturday, April 11, The Followers from LaGrange, Jimmy Norred from LaGrange, and The Louise Atkins Family from Newnan. There is no admission price, everyone is welcome, refreshments will be served, and one is free to come and go as he pleases. And, if you like to shout, Smith says, this is welcomed as a way of praising the Lord. Assisting Smith with the sings is A.D. (Amos Dan) Burdette, who occasionally plays and sings himself. Additional information is available by contacting Smith at 770-251-5621.
