Account initiated for new Promise Place shelter

Victims of domestic abuse are one step closer to having a place to turn in an emergency.

Promise Place, the Fayette County Council on Domestic Violence, opened an account at BB&T bank on Jeff Davis Drive in Fayetteville specifically for monies raised toward building an emergency shelter in Fayette County.

Mike Jablonski, senior vice president of BB&T Bank, presented Sonja Strickland, executive director of Promise Place, with the first check for deposit.

"This is a great cause and I am more than happy to be a part of this effort to create a safe place for victims of domestic violence," said Jablonski.

Promise Place serves over 400 women and 500 children each year and operates predominately on community support and donations. For more information or to make a donation call Heidi Becker, community outreach director of Promise Place, at 770-846-8659.
