Bad Links? | Teen arrested after run-in with policeBy LEE WILLIAMS An Atlanta teen faces multiple criminal charges after assaulting a police officer on Ga. Highway 85 North and Williamsburg Way. No one was injured. However, the teen, who was later identified as missing out of Atlanta, was arrested during the brief run-in and taken to the Regional Youth Detention Center following the incident. Fayetteville police responded to Ga. Highway 85 North and Ga. Highway 92 North after receiving a complaint regarding a suspicious person in the area about 1:05 a.m. April 12. A police officer attempted to gain some information about the 16-year-old male teen, but the teen allegedly refused to cooperate, Fayetteville police spokeswoman Lt. Beverly Trainor indicated. The officer finally did obtain the subjects name and date of birth and ran the information through the Fayette County dispatcher who advised the subjects Georgia drivers license was suspended for school violations, Trainor said. Officers on the scene began to get highly suspicious of the juveniles actions and advised him that they were going to place him in handcuffs for officer safety reasons until they could confirm information on him. The teen allegedly became combative as the officers tried to place him in handcuffs, officials said. The subject began swinging his arms and attempted to flee on foot, Trainor said. The juvenile struck the officer in the face with a closed fist while the subject was still attempting to run. Police detained the juvenile and charged him with obstruction of an officer, simple battery and disorderly conduct. He was transported to the RYDC. |
