Bad Links? | School board redistricts for two future subdivisionsBY JOHN THOMPSON Although there are no children playing in the front yards yet, the Fayette County Board of Education wants to make it clear to prospective parents where their children will go to school. The board unanimously voted Monday night to redistrict new subdivisions on Redwine and Price roads. The two new subdivisions have 126 homes under construction, and would be zoned for Whitewater Middle and Whitewater High School, said vocational director Jerry Whitaker. But Whitaker recommended the new residents be rezoned to the Fayette Middle School and Fayette County High School districts. He estimated there would be 188 middle and high schools students in the new subdivisions. Fayette County High School has a capacity of 1,700 and will be at 1,300, while Whitewater will have trailers to handle the students, he said. The new subdivisions are in the Fayetteville City limits and Whitaker said the redistricting keeps kids who live across the street from each other going to different schools. I just want us to make sure and get the message out to the Realtors and builders where these kids will go to school, said board member Janet Smola. |
