Bad Links? | Pike supt. could face more chargesBy LEE WILLIAMS Evidence continues to mount and so could the charges against a former Pike County school superintendent who was busted for allegedly trying to solicit sex from an undercover cop who he thought was a 15-year-old girl. Earnest Darryl Dean, 43, of 637 Whitfield Walk, Zebulon, was arrested March 10 in connection with a charge that he violated the Computer Pornography and Child Exploitation Prevention Act of 1999. The charge stems from a claim that Dean allegedly tried to solicit sex from a homeschooled teen from Peachtree City whom he met on the Internet. However, the teen was really an undercover police officer. After compiling enough evidence, Peachtree City police, working in conjunction with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the Pike County Sheriffs Department and the Fayette County District Attorneys office, Dean was arrested at the Pike County Board of Education at 9:45 a.m. Twenty minutes later, GBI agents moved in with a search warrant and confiscated computers and other items from Deans office. Authorities collected one pack of Cialis, a sexual enhancement drug, from Deans top left desk drawer, and a Southern Linc phone box labeled Superintendent that contained a box of Lifestyles Ultra lubricated condoms and other items inside of the married mans office, according to a Peachtree City Police Department property receipt retrieved via the Open Records Act. GBI Special Agent in Charge J.T. Rickerson said he would brief Peachtree City police officials and the Pike County Sheriffs Department. The agencies would determine if more charges would be filed against Dean. Dean resigned from his $120,000 a year post in the wake of the allegations. He remains free on $25,000 bond, but he could be forced to come up with additional bond money if more charges are filed. |
