Bad Links? | Board approves Newnan Crossing transfers By JOHN THOMPSON The overcrowding at Newnan Crossing Elementary will get slightly better next year. The Coweta County Board of Education Tuesday night accepted 65 voluntary transfers to other schools in the county. In February, the board had asked for voluntary transfers to try and help get the numbers down at Newnan Crossing. The transfers are only for one year, and parents will be responsible for transportation of the students to the new school. Forty-three of the students volunteered to go to White Oak Elementary, while 13 chose Jefferson Parkway Elementary. The other nine students will head to Poplar Road Elementary in August. In 2006, the crowded conditions at Newnan Crossing should be further improved when Bobby Welch Elementary School open on Mary Freeman Road. During the school boards retreat earlier this year, board chairman Mitch Powell referred to the area around Newnan Crossing as the epicenter of growth for the county. The school is next to the huge SummerGrove subdivision, and several new subdivisions are planned for the general area.
