Moffatt to teach family series at Christs ChurchChrists Church at Whitewater invites the community to attend its new Family Life Series, led by Dr. Greg Moffatt, beginning Wednesday, April 13. The six-week series is part of the churchs adult programming entitled, The Well. Topics Moffatt will address are discipline with strong-willed children, current culture and the Christian response (specifically TV, movies, and the Internet and their impact on families and parenting), and developmental issues for parents of children infant through adolescence. He also will address mental health issues, marriage issues, and other subjects that have an effect on children and parenting. My hope is that parents who attend this series will learn more effective parenting skills, communications skills with their children, and also learn how to appropriately select teaching practices that are most effective and those that address children given their varied development and personality differences, Moffatt said. The teaching format is very casual and Moffatt will allow adequate time for questions during the class. He adds that he aims to make sure that his attendees leave feeling like they have gotten something that they came for. He also states, I also hope that attendees will learn to think about how culture affects them personally as well as their families, so that they might make informed decisions on what they will and will not allow their children to engage. Moffatt is a counselor, college professor, public speaker, lecturer, and author. He holds an M.A. in counseling and a Ph.D. from Georgia State University in educational psychology and a B.A. in psychology from Milligan College. He also is a professor of psychology at Atlanta Christian College and a child and family therapist. His latest book is entitled A Parents Journey: Parenting from Conception Through Adolescence. Children and teen programming also is available during The Well. All children are invited to Celebration Choir and Drama from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Kidmo, which is a high impact DVD and small group study, is from 7-7:45 p.m. A nursery is available as well. The program 2:42 invites students to encounter God through the use of live worship, high impact multimedia, drama, and teaching which is relevant to todays teenagers. A family meal, catered by the Christs Church kitchen ministry, is served each Wednesday from 5:30-6:30 p.m. The cost is $5 for adults and $3 for ages kindergarten through fifth grade.
